Who Are We?
We are the senior section of Vale Royal Athletic Club. We welcome new members! It can seem a big step to join a running club but we want you to enjoy running with us so please read on and contact us with your questions.
Training is based in the Northwich and Winsford areas – depending on the time of year this can be on the roads, off-road or track.
aim is to run for enjoyment – for some this is structured training to
improve performance in races on the roads, cross country, fells or
track. For others it is joining like minded people for a social run. SEND US A FEW DETAILS ABOUT YOURSELF HERE AND WE'LL GET BACK TO YOU TO HELP YOU GET STARTED.
A question we have all debated before getting in touch! We welcome any new members but we also recognise that you will get most out of us if you are already up & running.
Our guide (not compulsory) minimum standard for adult runners is that you can run 3 miles in somewhere close to 11 minute miling. That said, we have a beginners and parents group who run and Sunday mornings (see Sunday Runs below) covering a broad range of standards. If you try us and want some other options, we can advise where to find the best places (and clubs) to run with. We want you to enjoy your running wherever you choose!
Can I Join You?
Yes! Joining a running club can feel like a big step but please do make contact with us and try us out! New members are always welcome. Please contact us and come along to one of our club nights and see what it’s like without any obligation! If you're thinking of trying out a few training sessions with the group, you will be made very welcome (please introduce yourself and tell someone you're new to the group). If you are not sure where to start, please do contact us.
You don't need to be a member to try us out! Come along free of charge for up to three training sessions and see if you enjoy it. After you have had a chance to get to know us we hope you will then become a fully fledged VRAC member (which will also entitle you to discounted race entrance fees and discounts at many sports outlets!).

Midweek Training Sessions
There are two core training sessions a week. The main Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions focus on interval training on the track or road/trails with a group warm-up/warm-down. Come down to the clubhouse at Knight's Grange on a Tuesday or a Thursday and ask for some advice on which group to join. The actual session details are on the training page. Saturday Training Sessions
club do training from Linmere Visitor Centre, Delamere Forest (Near Delamere Station) at
8:30am. The session usually involves multiple uphill efforts. It is
coached by Andy Carter and Shaun McGrath.
A big group including seniors/juniors and their coaches and mums and dads meet on a Sunday at 10:30am and this is a good place to meet the club and introduce yourself (Best to ask for Shaun when you get there.) This has a number of different groups and there should be one there to suit you. Please contact Shaun McGrath for details as the meeting places can change and we might not have updated this page (the usual meeting is in the car park by Linmere visitor centre).
Quicker runners can join the
Sunday morning run - a brisk 80 - 90 minute run of around 9 -11miles
starting from Over Square, Winsford 8am.
What about Track & Field and Junior Athletics?
Despite the separate website, Vale Royal AC senior section is an integral part of Vale Royal Athletics Club. VRAC also has a highly successful track and junior section with athletes regularly featuring strongly in local and national championships. To find more information, please visit the VRAC main site.
